I have an old johnson 6 hp that is on my sailboat. It would race and then slow down last year so I redid the carb with new gaskets on the enrichment screw which seemed to fix the problem. However, while it runs good it will occasionally speed up for a few minutes and then settle back down to the selected speed. Does anyone have an idea what causes the engine to speed up...it freaks me out as I do not want it to stall or die on me as it did last year. Also, what is the fuel pump on the side of the engine...I looked at it and it seems nothing is really there!
