Hey how is everyone...Say a ?

Hey how is everyone...Say a ? went to the lake yesterday and the ol motor(johnson QD 14) just would not run ( I had it in the barrel the day b4 and she ran like a top)any way it would start and just within a few seconds after starting it would rpm pretty high and then die! i would have to prime both the tank and motor to get it to go again.... and it would do the same thing.i finally figured out that if i kept the primer lever in about 1/2 way and keep priming the tank she would run but man did i go thru the gas doing that...barley made it back to the boat dock on the other side of the lake...(from drifting)any ideas as to what the heck is going on would b greatley thanked....brought the motor home and tore into it finding nothing out of the ordinary? course I don't know alot r i would not b seeking advise ;-") thanks folks 4 any input(other than telling me 2 buy a new motor ;-}(

The gas cap on the tank is tig

The gas cap on the tank is tight and NOT loose????

"I believe this motor has a gl

"I believe this motor has a glass sediment bowl with a ceramic filter inside...These filters often clog...Try removing it and blowing through it...if you think it's clogged, try soaking it in lacquer thinner or something similar....I would tell you to try the motor with the filter removed but if there is any sediment in the tank or lines, you might wind up with a clogged carburetor...I am not sure if these fiters are still available or if there is a replacement part...Good Luck...Great Motors!"

Thanks Bob... you know what th

Thanks Bob... you know what there is no filter in there..perhaps someone removed it??and that is my prob got some debrey in the carb

"OK I tore the carb assm down

"OK I tore the carb assm down blew out everything in all areas carb, pump assm etc etc...still doing the same thing..will run 4 a few seconds and die...could the pump be the culprit all along?
thanks"

"I assume you have the origina

"I assume you have the original two hose tank. Does the tank build up pressure???? When you open the cap after it has run for a few minutes, it should have quite a bit of pressurized air coming out for a several second interval. Without decent pressure, fuel will not be forced out of the tank and into the carburetor. Low pressure could be caused by leaking air hose or bad o-rings at the fuel connector. There is also a mesh metal screen inside the tank at the end of the fuel pick up tube...to check that, you would have to loosen several screws to remove the top of the tank...A new gasket will be needed....Does the motor run if you push the pump button continuosly???? Good luck"

"Yes I do have the orginal 2 h

"Yes I do have the orginal 2 hose....i thought the hoses could be a problem so i replaced them.i did take a look into the screen in tank all seemed well,,, funny u mentioning the air pressure..i noticed that when i did open it the day b4 lake(after running in barrel 15 r 20 min) there was lots of pressure out of it.........the next day at lake there was none zero nada,,,,,,,,yes if i keep pushing the bulb every min it would keep on running not very well but it did run....i wonder if it could be the connector? we'll figure this thing out, thanks much for all your input so far"

Maybe the check valves are bad

Maybe the check valves are bad and the motor is not pumping air to the tank. The pressure in the tank the other day may have been from the heat of the sun.

"There is a short piece of hos

"There is a short piece of hose which goes from the intake manifold to the motor mounted fuel connector...If that hose has any leaks, the system will not operate properly. To check the tank for leaks you can spray it with soapy water and look for bubbles. If you are at the lake, as long as there is any pressure in the tank, you could submerge it in water while the motor is running and look for bubbles from the tank, hose, gasket etc. I know I don't have to tell you to make sure the gas cap is on and tight when you do this!"

Hey Bob .I have replaced every

Hey Bob .I have replaced every hose on the thing...still not found the prob. i don't think at this point it will run long enough to build up pressure...i'll find it but its gonna be like.oh thats it..and be some minor simple fix lest ways i hope so ;-}
