I have once again

" Good day,
I have once again spun a prop on my 1970 Johnson 9.5 engine. Second one in two years. I am beginning to think I had the wrong prop on the little motor. Can anyone tell me the correct prop for this motor?

The one I just spun was a 8 1/8 X 8. Also, are there any maintenance type things that should be done to a prop to help ensure this don't happen?

" Original OMC Prop was 8 X 8

" Original OMC Prop was 8 X 8 1/8 OMC part # 383315.

OMC 8 X 7 part # 387334 is good if you want a little more kick starting out.

OMC 8 1/4 X 9 OMC part # 391534 will give you a little more top end if your boat's not to heavy for it.

I've also had good luck with Michigan 8.25 X 8 part number 012008.

The shear pin should be soft enough to prevent damage to the gearcase and prop. If you don't have them, get them from a marine dealer.
