While out today cruising along

While out today cruising along at 4800rpm 34mph with a 1988 johnson 120hp the motor stopped running. Failed to restart on several attempts. after about 10 minutes while checking for spark the motor started. I headed back to the ramp and after about 10 minutes again running about 4500rpms the engine stalled again. This time I was in the 6mph zone and was quickly able to get a tow about 1/2 mile to the ramp. Again the motor restarted. What could this be the power pack????
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

"your engine,is going to have to be evaluated,for spark,compression,engine temp,and fuel delivery,could be ignition,could be restricted fuel filter,water in fuel,timer base pinched wires,dibris in carbs,etc,etc.did it get slower and slower,or just die ?..could be overheating to the point of bogging the engine down.When was the last time you installed a complete water pump kit?,rebuilt the carbs?..tune -up?"

"The motor stopped as if the key switch was turned off. The engine runs great plenty of power no hesitation or bogging down. Just shuts down while cruising along for no apparent reason, does not restart immediately after this shut down but will restart after a cool down period of 10-15 minutes.
If I was to shut it down myself I do not have a restart problem. Good compression, good water flow from p-hole, I mix the oil with the gas, no warning horn sounding, any help would be appreciated. Thanks Al"

"ok----then,i would be checking ign switch,emer kill switch(very suspect here)if present,...pinched wires in or near control box,cowling...does it die when u throttle it,u may have your blk/yellow kill wire rubbed raw in box...."

"be sure and pull a fuel sample,looking for water.your power pack,is prob not at fault---I would check the stator,under flywheel for sure,it WILL cause this prob,See if u see any melting on/under it.a melted plastic looking .stuff."
