hi all. i am putting my boat on the lake today for the first time since i rebuilt the powerhead.i have only ran it at home on the muffs for about a half hour and not a steady half hour 10 min - 10 min -10 min.Every thing looks good so it is ready.I am running my gas mix on the rich side for breakin. What is the best recomended way to breakin this 1970- 60 hp esl? The book says run at hi idle for the first 5-10 min not to exseed 3000.After warm up it says bring boat to full power and plane out then bring rpm down to 3000 with a even plane. The 2 hour of breakin it says go full power then plane out at 4000. in short burst go full power 1-2 min then bring rpm to 4000.I think it is fair to say some may differ from this books breakin info.I was told to run it with the rpm not to exseed 3500 for the first few hours letting the piston rings seat and wear in correctlly and run the motor at different rpm but dont load the motor. the book states to go full power in a short burst then plane out .Looking for more info on this before i go out to break it in. Thank you Tony

I have a file at home that is a scanned copy of the OMC recommended break-in procedure. I forget the specifics, but you are close. For the break-in period you should be running your oil mix at 25:1 rather than the approximate "on the rich side".

The biggest thing is to allow complete cool down periods between your runs and to vary throttle position rather than maintain any one, consistent RPM. Also, no wide open throttle operation until the very end of the break-in period.
