johnson/evinrude 235 #s dont match?

hello everyone i am new to this board but have checked it out the past few nights and it seems to be a great place to get some info.ok so i bought a new to me boat with a johnson 235 outboard or so i was told.my question is on some previous posts here i seen where you need to check the model and serial #s on the bracket and also on the what i call a freeze plug on the motor.well my question is that the model# and serial# on the bracket is as follows m#j235txcrc and s#j5984378 but the #on the freeze plug is 396245-rph is this really a 235h.p.motor?any answers would be greatly appreciated, and is the johnson any better or worse than the evinrude?

Johnson and Evinrude are much the same except for detailing, color and trim. Kinda like Ford and Mercury autos and trucks. The early Mustang and Cougars like 67's to 72's......same running gear, different looks. Mercury trucks were sold in Canada and were just the same as the Ford trucks.
