I am resealing my 1972 Johnson 100hp motor and now i am installing the water pump. There 2 rubber grommets going into the housing before the guide tube. But there's third bigger rubber that looks like those small grommets and it doesn't fit anywhere onto the pump housing. I tried to insert onto the drive shaft and into the housing before the cover that has a seal goes on. It fits but the seal and cover won't fit afterward. Please help me with some advice. Can I just leave this rubber ring out? It doesn't show in the manual!!!

Thank you, thank you, thank you very much. I kept putting in and pulling out the metal cover with the seal and nearly damaged the seal. I thought with pressure the rubber washer will be loosen and traveled upward and into the driveshaft's spline.
