johnson command center no revers

so here is the story
put new used motor on my bass boat the Johnson command center was taken apart. " i have had some practice with the command center " it seems to me that my cables are binding specifically my shifting cable. i have taken it apart numerous times and found nothing wrong with the mechanics of the command center. ounce it jams i can disconnect from motor and it will still be jammed " throttle only no reverse or forward gears" take it apart put it back together works good for an hour or two. ounce the jamming starts and cables are disconnected i can move handle and watch the throttle cable move and also the shift cable move, shift cable will not move enough for forward and can not put it in reverse at all.

A internal picture of the "Control Box" (command center) would help. However....... There is one type control box that incorporates a nylon tooth shift lever within the box that has two (2) extremely sharp teeth.

Should one of those nylon tipped teeth break off, the result is exactly as you have described. The part number of that nylon tipped lever, should this be your problem, is 386542.

thank you i have had it apart there is no stripped tooth. its weird because it will work perfect then jam and i will have throttle but no gears when it happened last time i had tried to adjust shift cable by the black adjuster on the cable at the motor then BAM dang thing was jammed

thank you i have had it apart there is no stripped tooth.

Inspecting the control box closely... Does it incorporate the nylon shift lever as I mentioned, the one with two very sharp tipped teeth? If so, look very closely as the tip of the teeth will look undamaged to the inexperienced mechanic if they've never encountered it before.

The one I mention... the teeth come up to a needle point, razors edge. If one tooth has that razors edge and the remaining tooth does not, BUT rather has a very tiny bit chipped off... therein would be the problem. I can think of no other cause that would give you a temporarily control box lock up that stays locked even with the cables disconnected... UNLESS... someone has tinkered with the control box components.

thank you i will take it apart tomorrow and look at the teeth and it has definitely been tampered with i have found no washer on the warm up lever screw not to mention all the missing screws but as for all the gears cam rollers and ball bearings they are all there.

do you know where to find the model number

Small plate on outside area of port (left) transom bracket (bkt that attaches eng to boat)... also look for a small core plug on the powerhead (Looks like a quarter size freeze out plug) which may also have the model & serial number imbedded upon it.

ok so update

pulled the command center out and put omc on with no issues take the boat out now i have all gears and everything but can only get 1/4 throttle with barely just above idle out of reveres so now im back to square one. i have watched the cable move and it really not moving so it is in the control box again.

so i have tried to upload my pic of controls and after i have them in the box and they are uploaded it only gives me an option to clear list am i missing somthing
