can any one tell me if i can r

can any one tell me if i can remove shift shaft bushing and replace o ring without dissembling the prop shaft etc. is there easy way to do this?

Run a 5/16-NC tap into the bus

Run a 5/16-NC tap into the bushing ( 3 threads or so ) pull it out with a bolt or threaded rod and replace the o-ring.Simple it is.

"There's your chance to load up on decals Ikia (grin). BTW, that's a excellent third party way (so to speak) to remove that brass bushing, lot of members jotting that down no doubt."
 
Now wouldn't the shifting

Now wouldn't the shifting rod still be in the way if you do not take the lower unit apart to remove it?

The shift rod unscrews from the yoke and can be pulled out can't it.

But can you get it back in as easily or do you still have to remove half the contents of the gear box to do that?

Does it screw fully into the yoke or by a specific amount?

"The shift rod screws out ---no need to make this complicated.It is not really a bushing , but rather a way to install the o-ring in the housing.It saves machining a groove in the housing and saves assembly time in a factory- which as far as I know does count in todays competitive environment."
