i have a 90 horse johnson motor tj90tlcem model no. trim and tilt works sometimes sometimes no is this caused by bad t and t motor if so how do i remove or can it be remov ed with out taking motor off boat can i just remove and replace motor thank u wayne

1989 90hp Johnson...........

Trace wires from electric PTT motor bacck to its plug in connector and unplug it. Run jumper wires directly from the battery to those two electric motor wires. Connected one way, the electric motor will run in one direction, reverse the wires for the opposite direction. If the electric motor functions perfectly every time you connect the jumper wires, then obviously the electric motor is okay.

Usually that type problem is due to either a loose connection, a tight but dirty connection, or an intermitent PTT switch..... Clean and tighten all connections including the terminals at the battery.

Let us know what you find.

i jumped wires from batt to t and t motor motor went down when i reversed jumpers 2 raise motor the motor was slow and sounded bogged down taking a load i stopped half way up now motor will not move how hard is it 2 remove t and t motor do i have 2 remove boat motor from transom thank u wayne

Water ( salt water ) may have found its way into the trim motor.------------The entire unit can be removed without removing the motor from the boat.---Overhaul / replace brushes / reseal the motor.

Loosen manual release valve 2 turns (no more than 2 turns).

Raise engine manually to its extreme up position and lock it there.
Remove the center tilt cylinder upper retaining pin.
Lower engine somewhat manually to compress the center tilt cylinder rod down, then raise and lock the engine again.
Disconnect the electric motor's wiring (unplug it).
Remove the three PTT retaining bolts from each side (6 total).
Tilt the PTT unit out of its location for bench work.

Personally, I'd simply replace the electric motor rather than repair it.
