Johnson 90 Hp 1988 Tachometer

I am installing a Tach on my 1988 90 hp I have two questions:

Is there a recommendation you would have for the brand of tach? I was just gonna get a Teleflex I do not need anything special.

Is there somewhere else to get this Tach wire kit or just purchase the connector? It seems a little outrageous to spend 30+ for 6' of wire and this connector. The Kit number is 174732

Is there a problem just to solder the wires into the control box? I would prefer the connector but $0.25 of solder and 5 mins is a great alternative.

you can pick up the 12v and the ground anywhere under the dash...the grey wire going to the motor may or may not have a connection inside the control box but it does not need one..it can go straight to the tach...just find the right connector slide on,s or whatever and you are correct...i would not solder onto the connections on the tach...
