" My 8 HP Johnson won't id

" My 8 HP Johnson won't idle without partial choke. I tried cleaning the carb, 89 octane fuel. Above idle no choke is necessary and it runs fine. If you push the choke in at idle it races up and runs out of fuel. The choke shaft has a small hole that as soon as the shaft enters the housing and covers the hole the engine races and then dies. This carb is a bear to remove.
Any suggestions? "

" Roger.... It sounds like you have overlooked something within the carburetor. I would suspect either a clogged slow speed jet if it exists in that model, or a restricted slow speed fuel passageway if that carburetor incorporates a adjustable slow speed needle valve.

" Joe, thanks for the reply. I'll try soaking in carb cleaner. I was squirting the passages(removed low speed needle) with carb cleaner. The idle can in 1.5-5 turns out and their is no change.
