Johnson 7.5 electrical issue

1980 Johnson j8rcss.

One plug isn't firing. Both plugs work fine when switched to the good wire.

But.....when I disconnect the ground (I think it's a ground) coming out of the coil on the good side, then the bad side starts working fine.

Thanks for any help on whats causing this.
 
I'm trying to learn how to use a multimeter so I can check those things out. Will probably take a while.

Actually it looks like the old multimeter I have won't work for this. There is no DVA convertor, plus I think it's a high input resistance (ten megohm), and I need low for this. Is that correct?

I don't think it would be worth buying a new multimeter. Is there any other way I can troubleshoot this?
