I have a 1979 model with no system to keep it in the tilted up position - is there a bracket/clip that I am missing or do I have to keep jamming a piece of 2x4 lumber in it?

I do not think there is such a thing. The transom pivot bolt(9/16" wrench required)is tightened to enhance the drag of the motor to the transom mount.. It should be adjusted where the motor will stay in the position selected but will drop with a light downward force. Adjusted properly - the motor will stay where you put it.

Thanks for the info - it is being used as a backup motor on a bigger boat so it gets knocked around when airborne in the rough so might have to rig up something myself!
