Just rebuilt an old 1988 6hp and for the life of me can’t find the four lower unit bolts (long shaft) can anyone please help me identify the size bolts needed? Being in the UK it’s difficult to find non metric bolts so ordering online is easiest if I can get the size, not worth ordering OEM they charge about $10 a bolt! TIA

What are you guys talking about motors here?, your disrupting my sports site. What do you think this is, an outboard forum or something?
The 79 was the last year for the 4 short bolts. The six was dropped then for 4 years and in 84 they went with 3 long bolts and maybe 2 shorts......I don't remember.....I will go look at an 8 back in the shop.

There’s two bolts under the cavitation plate by the anode which attaches it to the extension section for the long shaft then another two one the outside of the extension section attaching it to the mid section

Right, just checked both my 7.5 short and 8 long. 3 bolts in the short and 5 in the long. I will take them out and measure when you let me know if you need the 4 shorter ones, or all 5. Maybe you still have the front (long) one.
Now let me alone till the Alabama game is over.

No.....I don't do much tv, got more productive things in my life. Like shoveling snow.

Got the long one that goes down the front edge :) there’s two under the cavitation plate in the anode, this connects the extension piece for the long shaft then the other two which go either side of the extension piece up into the mid section

thanks for all your help!

Okay, good. The shorts are 1 1/4 long with 7/8" of threads and the longs are 3 1/4 with 7/8" of threads. They both, of course, are 1/4 20 NC. Stainless and be sure to use washers....stainless. The original bolts have the washer built right on to the bolt. You may likely have to grind the washers to a smaller OD, than what you have available. The original head hex size is 3/8 inch. I am sure you will find the original bolts right after you get it assembled with the replacements.

You can guarantee I will find them as soon as I order the replacements! They have to be somewhere and together as it’s all of them I am missing!

Thanks for your help

Found them!! Put them in with my sockets no idea why but at least I have them!

Quick other question carb has two fuel lines one from the fuel pump and one from the enricher/choke, which one attaches to the fuel bowl (bottom barb) and which to the other one nearest the block
