Johnson 60ESL71C Gear case seals

Hello,

Which would be the seals that would let water into the gear case if they were defective? I have manual for engine but am unsure.

Any of them. But the most vulnerable is the propeller shaft seal because monofilament fish line gets in there.
EDIT: Rethinking, fish line isn't a real big problem on the 60 because the design more or less keeps it out.

If you have water in the gear case, take it in and have it pressure and vacuum checked. Takes the guess work out.

Thanks. Pulling apart, cleaning and replacing as required. Dont think its been done for 43 years!
