"i bought this johnson 55hp ab

"i bought this johnson 55hp about 8 months ago .when i got it home i noticed the mod/ser/info plate was bare.the whole motor had been sanded back ready for painting and it looked like someone sanded a bit to hard. all the info is gone but the plate was still in tact.i have done quite a bit of work on this motor and now want to register both boat and motor.im told they will need a ser no. what shoud i do? ..any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, thanks."
 
Look on the powerhead for a qu

Look on the powerhead for a quarter size core plug (looks like a small freeze out plug). Hopefully the model and serial numbers are still on it. Let us know.

"i have checked the power head for these numbers.i couldent find anything that resembles a core plug with both numbers on it.
heres a pic with all the numbers i could find on the powerhead.
im not sure if the model is a (55EL79) ..the seller told me it was.

"i have been looking at some different models online and managed to find one that looks exactly like mine. it states that it is a - Evinrude 1982 50hp.so i am guessing the model must be (50BELCNR) or (50BECNR).not sure wich though.
