New here and also to boating.

I have a problem now that the engine wont engage reverse - the prop turn out of water but under load nothing except an over revving engine.

Any tips or advice very much appreciated.

try disconecting

try disconecting the shifting cable and shift manualy.to see if gose into gear the cable adj may be wrong.also look and make sure shifting rod connection is proper.hope this is a goood place to start

We assume its working normally in forward right?

yep everything is fine in forw

yep everything is fine in forward gear and there was no grinding in reverse
