I have just bought a Shetland

I have just bought a Shetland with a Johnson 50 outboard it starts fine but when i push down the fast idle lever to put in gear the engine seems to be reeving low and cut out thanks

i dont see a set screw on parts list
i sugg a general tune up /de carb (seafoam)

That engine has a speed limite

That engine has a speed limiter on neutral. Impossible to rev up.

"Engine idle speed is set by computer. The only adjustment screw is for the IAC valve, and that is not to be tampered with unless You have it hooked to a computer/lap-top. The neutral limiter is there to prevent engine/cam/valves to blow to pieces when over reving unloaded.
Anyone that wants to maintain these engines should simply buy a FACTORY manual."
