Johnson 35hp 1983 WON"T stop.

Hi,
I purchase an older 14' Cresliner (1963) Powered by a Johnson short shaft, 35 hp (1983) with control, and my issue is the outboard motor won't stop. Start right up, idle well, but turn the ignition key to off position and it keep going, pull the kill switch, still going. I need to pull the chock to turn it off.
I install a new, made in the USA, ignition switch and a new kill switch. What could be the problem(s)?

The ignition is shorted to ground to stop the motor.-----Look for a loose / broken wire.

Thank you for the advise Raceone, I will double check again. I do own a second control, should I replace it?

Worth a try.-----I myself would look for the loose wire / bad connection.------But I can not touch or see you boat and motor.

Ok, I clean, and reinstall every wires on the motor that look like a ground one, including the solenoid, no luck, still run with the key at off position or the the kill switch activated. I'm taking a break on this project and next I will replace the control. I'll keep you posted.
