Johnson 35 3cyl 1998 - No water from "pee hole"

Hate to call it that.
Just went thru several hours searching. Confused. Need sanity check and help.

Motor overheated yesterday and was towed in.
No stream from pee hole.
Connected hose. Water comes out of holes in bottom unit but not the pee hole.
Pulled Thermostat. Some black junk. Water comes into theromostat but the other side was dry.
Re-installed thermostat cap only and ran water again. Still no water coming from pee hole.
Have run soft copper wire into each opening with no evidence of blockages.

Please confirm water is suppose to come out of this location.
Thinking I have a clogged water jacket somewhere in the power head.

But any advice appreciated.

Hello again.
Pulled lower end and rotor and pump look new.
No problems anywhere down there.

Here is my problem again.
Connect garden hose to motor at the connector next to the pisser-hole. Turn on water to full blast. Only Thermostat cover on.
No water from pisser hole. Used flexible copper wire tried to probe for any blockages. Nothing found.

So, it looks to me like there must be a blockage in the powerhead between the thermostat and the pisser hole???
Is this possible? Logical? Am I missing something? Any suggestions? I really do not want to pull the head.

Is the seal on top of the water pump housing in good condition ?----------This seal must be good as it connects the pump with the water passage way that is cast into the exhaust housing.

Seal on top of water pump is marginal.
No obvious cracking or leaks.

I also poured some wd-40 into the thermostat housing.
Came out quickly by way of the front part of the midsection extension.
I think this is where it is suppose to exit the casting. Did it 3 times. No problems.
Nothing from the pisser hole.

Pontoon boat is in lake. Backed up with engine toward shore.
Engine is trimmed to up position.
Side covers loosened/removed.
Bottom End off.

So I am thinking the thermostat plus the angle of the motor prevented the water pressure from the hose exiting the pisser-hole.
does not make sense to me.

Thinking of running an air hose and trying to blow it out starting at the pisser hole tomorrow with about 100 psi.

Any suggestions appreciated.

Reinstalled bottom end.
Started motor.
Only exhaust coming from pisser-hole.
Lots of smokey exhaust.

Head gasket?
 
There is no head gasket on the 3 cylinder 35 HP motors ----------Just o-rings. --------Might be worth checking.

Removed head. Everything appears clear and in working order.
Note: I may be confused. There are two outlets on the bottom engine cover side by side.
Right side can be removed to attach a hose. This one also has a fitting to allow a small stream of water.
The left side is open and clear with oily soot.
I assumed the water should be coming out of the left side opening. Now I am second guessing that and thinking it should be coming out the right.
That is why I saw no stream when the hose was connected.

I am going to put it back together and try starting it one more time.

Appreciate all the help.
Its on a pontoon on a lake.
We run it several times a week.
My wife hates putting the canvas cover on the boat.
Imagine what she will say when I tell her she has to take the motor off the boat and run it in a barrel after every cruise.
Holy smokes! Would you like to inform her?

Will report after I get this back together a little later tonight.

Sorry, No offense intended. Agree with flushing and good maintenance.
This lake water is very hard.

Removed bottom end.
Blew out both big and small hole.
Compressed air thru water intake came out small hole at bottom of mid section where it was suppose to.

Re-assembled and ran without the thermostat.
Still no water pressure.
Everything else is eliminated.
Continues to point to bad water pump.
Will check to make sure pump was re-assembled correctly and probably replace all seals and impeller.

Final Report-
Re-assembled water pump.
Impeller had been installed backwards.

Now have steady stream. (no thermostat installed)
Will check thermostat and go over everything tomorrow.

Turns out I was very confused about the two output ports in the rear of the engine below the cover.
I thought water came out of both ports. Wrong. The left port is exhaust and the right is water.
