"hi does anyone know what year

"hi does anyone know what year the following engine is. i can find a number on the shaft which is 327730D. i have plenty of part numbers for the throttle, side cover, head cover, and carb mount. i was sold this with my new boat and told it was a susuki 25, but have been told after that it is a johnson engine. i have no idea what the timing settings would be. i think it is cdi not sure do i need to take fly wheel off to find this out. at the moment i can start engine but it seems to strain as if timing is out, runs for approx 3-4 mins then cuts out, then after fiddling with the acclerator i can get it to start again and then when it cuts out again it almost sounds as if it is going to back fire sometimes possible to rev but other times it seems to suck in too much air and cuts out. so i am wondering if i has anything to do with the advance and retard system thanks for any help"

"after looking on the internet

"after looking on the internet and asking numerous questions i have a model number which is BE25ELCDR which i have been told is a 25hp 1986 evinrude engine. the problem that i have is when i start it up the engine will tick over for approx 3 minutes, and then dies. i can keep it going by giving the throttle a little tweek. i have taken the carb to bits, cleaned it, and put it back together. bought a new fuel bulb, started it again, same problem, except, if i just touch the bulb, just before the engine dies, it picks up again for a few minutes. ?? also, whilst primming the carb with the bulb, i can hear petrol going into the engine, should this be happening if the float chamber is full ?? or is this normal ?? could this be my problem and how do i go about solving this."
