Johnson 25 HP 1974 (25r74m) - CAM good or bad? How do you know

Can't thank you enough for your help as I rebuild this Johnson/Evinrude for my dad. So I'm looking at the CAM and it has some marks up near the top. Is this OK to use?

That would be the crankshaft.----------Corrosion / rust appears where the oil seal runs.--------New cranks are on at a very special ( cheap ) price I believe.

That's not the cam... the cam is the small component that slides over and is held in place by the flywheel key.

What you are looking at is the top bearing race of the crankshaft. I believe that area you're speaking of would be outside the roller bearing area. Clean it up with some wet/dry 600 sandpaper using mineral spirits to smooth it out if it bothers you.
