Hi Guys,
I hadn't used my boat for a few years and last year tried to get it started. I got a very loud electrical crackling sound everytime I turned the ignition switch. After a while of trying with a fully charged battery I got nothing at all. I gave up and concentrated on my other boat for the rest of the season.
I am now having another go at the problem. I bought a new starter motor over the winter thinking this was the fault as the main bolt that attachs the positive to the brushes inside had snapped off which i thought may of been part of the problem.
So this is where I am at:
1. checked battery connections and all very good with a fully charged battery ready to go.
2. Swapped out starter solenoid from a working engine.
3. Replaced the main fuse on the engine.
4. Checked all connections for corroded wires around solenoid and main plug.
5. Bypassed the dead mans switch just to test if faulty.
6. Checked connections at the ignition switch.
7. Checked and cleaned all engine grounds.
And after all of that I still get nothing, not even a click at the engine. The fuel primer solenoid responds and the Trim N Tilt is working but nothing else.
I'm thinking I have fried something when I heard that electrical noise, but don't see how the engine's fuse would not of protected itself?
Would appreciate ideas as have run out of mine.
Regards
