I would like to find out if there is a way to remove the flywheel on my 20-HP 1971 Johnson Outboard using a tool other than a flywheel puller since I do not have one. I need to get to the points and condensers and would like to find out how to remove the flywheel without damaging it of course.

"Joe..... No, there are no short cuts. Trying to remove the flywheel without a proper puller will result in other problems that you definitely want to avoid.

All you need is a puller that will incorporate three bolts that insert into the threaded holes surrounding the flywheel nut. Besure to obtain the properly threaded bolts.

The puller is fairly cheap and can be obtained at most auto parts stores. It does not need to be the expensive puller listed in the service manuals."
