Johnson 2004 140 4 stroke additional gauges

Hi,

I have a 2004 Johnson 140 4 stroke engine and is currently rigged with the standard BRP tacho with system check lights incorporated. I would like to add a conventional temperature and oil pressure gauge to my current set-up to be able to keep a real time monitor of the situation whilst running.

Has anyone done this before? Is it possible to eliminate the BRP tacho + system check and rig a normal tacho, temperature gauge and oil pressure gauge?

or else if possible I could keep the original tacho + system check and add the other two gauges.

appreciate any input you might be able to provide.

thanks in advance,

Mike

That motor is towards the end of the joint venture with Suzuki. It is a Suzuki model so you might consult them for accessories as far as gauges. The temp is controlled by a sensor and probably as good as it gets, but the oil pressure might be more like an idiot light on cars. If you look up a J140PL4SR on MarineEngine.com on the crankcase section you will see reference #6 is a oil gallery plug. I am not recommending this as a port, but a dead end gauge may could be put here to read oil pressure direct. I have never done this. All disclaimers apply!

Thanks for your views t2,

yes you are right it's what they call a "JohnZuki". Talked to the local Suzuki dealers here and they advised that apparently Johnson decided to add their own wiring harness/loom to the engine to give it something of their own so he can't help me much on that.

Will look into your idea regarding the other plug for the oil pressure sensor, thanks.

Will wait a bit to see if maybe someone who did this before would be able to contribute.

thanks again
