Just bought a new boat and it came with a Johnson 250 on it. Previous owner stated he couldn't get the motor to fire off at all so he gave up on it. I still got the boat because he gave me a great deal and he was honest about the engine problems. The past few days I've been racking my brain on this engine. Ultimately I discovered the engine has no spark on all cylinders and that was the issue. Now the question is which part is faulty. I checked all grounds, good. Ive unplugged the kill switch at the power pack, no spark. Unplugged the rectifier from power pack, no spark. Tested the ohms from the stator. A little bit out of spec but should still produce spark. I tested the timing base, which has recently been replaced by previous owner. I couldn't tell if I was just doing the test correctly or not, but couldn't come to a solid conclusion if it was bad or good. Just would be surprised because it looks brand new. Magnets on flywheel are in great shape as well so not the issue. I have an idea it could be the timing base or just the power pack itself. From everything i see the only thing that would cause a no spark on all cylinders would be stator or the timing base. Unless the power pack is completely shot. Just need this thing to pop off so I know if it's worth the money to fix. Any and all ideas to test would be appreciated.
