Engine runs fine as long as RPM is below 1000. Above that, the check engine warning light and alarm come on. Idle down below
1000 and all is good. Any suggestions?

Model number will help.
Secondly, there is a vacuum switch located on the incoming fuel line that detects excessive suction in the fuel supply lines.
If there is a restriction, and the fuel pump pumps too hard to get the fuel...suction (vacuum) builds up, and triggers the vacuum switch, and then the "Check Engine" light.

You have a fuel restriction somewhere from the tank to the fuel pump.
