Hi all, I have a johnson 20 hp 20R73. With pull cord and no starter bracket. I also have an older 25 johnson with a starter bracket. Both motor looks alike. will the bracket off the older 25 work my 20hp?
Don

These motors were basically the same for 20 years and yes the bracket from the older ( if 22 cubic inch )-25 HP will fit.

Thank you that information. I was a little worried. As some i have seen for sale on internet look a tad different.
Regards

The internet can be a good scource for bad information.--------------The 22 cubic inch was built from 57 to about 77 and electric starters are all the same on them.------------The later 30 cubic inch motors are also the same for many , many years.--Parts from them do not fit the 22 cube models.

I let a guy sell me a bracket off of a 25 hp for my 20 hp 1971 Johnson. It didn't fit. I don't know what the bracket came off of but the seller swore it would fit. Nice guy but I'm out $25. All I can say is "buyer beware" and see if you can find a way to check part numbers. Now I own a 1972 25 hp and still have the old 20... but haven't checked to see if the bracket will interchange. You've got me curious so I might try it to see. (I think I've got the years and hp correct... anyways, they are very similar looking motors @ 1971-72).

Those brackets on the 22 cube motors are the same.----------Sellers on the internet can sometimes be way out on years and interchangeability.-------------1 out of 10 motors listed for sale are off on the manufacturing year ----------10 years is common and have seen them off by 20 years.

This is the mount that came off the 25. It is a different color than the other brackets and motor. On the photo on the far right, I put a black line on the left side of the bracket. From the black line over to the right, it looks just like the mount on the 20 hp. Does this look like the bracket I need to mount a starter to the 20? I could find no #'s on it.
Thank you for all your help..

I really need to know if the photos i have included show the right bracket. It did come off the 25. But it is a different color. I do not want to purchase a starter, if this is the wrong bracket. As I see the brackets are costly. As I mentioned before, I put a black line on the pic on the right. The bracket on the 20 looks just like the bracket from the line over toward the right of the bracket. trying to make it so I do not have to pull the cord.LOL.
Thank you for any and all your help.

Not sure of your question here but none of the brackets shown look like an " electric starter bracket " , it is totally different !------------------Looked at a starter and bracket to confirm this.-----------Most of the time the starter will come with the bracket.

Hello
THe brackets that you show in the pic's are the bracket that will be removed to install the starter bracket.
Like Raceone said the starter bracket has a round upper part that the starter will bolt to from the bottom up.
