Johnson 1996 115 hp vapor pump

I have a 1996 j115sxedr ocean pro looper that will not run without plugging the hose from the air silencer to the vapor pump. Is the diaphram bad in the vapor pump or is it something else ?? Starts and runs fine with the hose plugged.

i think,..what u r doing,is making up for a prob elsewhere...i would ,however,inst a new needle and seat in that tank,on the float assm.....

The problem is likely in the vapor pump as you surmise. Probably shouldn't run it with that hose plugged. If the hose routing is like a V6, the upper main bearing vents thru that hose as well.
