Johnson 1990 90HP rebuild question?

Hi I bought the engine with a head gasket leak - water in #4 cylinder. All bores are at 030" machine shop bored it to 040" wich removed the marks - also did #3. Since I have to buy two new 040" piston kits and am trying to keep costs down can I keep the existing rings in #1 & #2 - the bores look fine? The rings are about $50 a set in Australia so an extra $100!

Measure end clearace with rings in the bore.-------------If you look at the top ring closely you will see quite a taper ( if factory original parts ) and if there is too much clearance bad things will happen.---------As these " pressure back " rings wear they move out from the groove in the piston.---Also because of the taper the side clearance increases.---At full throttle these rings now rattle around and they break , which to me is no surprise !
