I have a problem with idle(low)when running w/ear muffs,Checked fuel mix,etc.Starts and runs but when i took off carb cover,found some metal shavings?on corner of cover.Don't see any damage.But I do see water coming in lower carb.Is this supposed to do this? New to O./B.mtrs.Could a(freeze) plug or some part,like intake, have cracked? the water is clean from my hose.Very low pressure,but it trickles from bottom of carb.then stalls motor. Thanks in advance,for any help.:confused:

There isn't any cooling passages forward of the crankshaft. Is it spitting back through the reeds? maybe coming in with fuel? misrouted hose? Water dripping from carbs doesn't seem right.

Thanks for your reply.I think I found the cure.The plastic vent/air breather is cracked,I may be getting water in thru that.Have to replace it today to be sure.Looks like it may come in from the water pump hole on port side of engine,near linkage.Running w/earmuffs,and it's clean water for sure.Just comes out of the very bottom of lower carb,when idleing.Is there a rubber part that directs that water towards the rear of motor?Also,does it matter if engine cover is on/off?Thanks again,new to outboards, not motors.They all have little quirks...John

There is to be no water being sprayed anywhere on that powerhead assembly. I can't visualize the water problem you're having.

In one of my earlier questions,i asked about a small amount of metal shavings/aluminum in the air cover.could damage from a cylinder end up in the air cover?i don't see anything when i took the plugs out,as far as metal,etc.How can I check to see if a rod is broken?I pulled the plugs out on the side were the metal showed up,and the lower piston don't seem to be moving.Could this be running on 3 cylinders?
