"Hi, i have recently purchased a Johno 175 1988 that needs a rebuild (low comp in 1 cylinder) i have dismantled the whole power head to find that the crankshaft has surface rust on it.
What concerns me the most is the bearing surfaces
they look like they would clean up ok but the main bearing surface on the fly wheel side of the crank has very slight pitting what likes like microscopic pin holes. Would any one know if i could still use this crank if i polish up the bearing surface.

This one is easy. Take it to a marine machine shop. Let them take a look at it. They can tell you. Your local marine dealers should be willing to tell you who they use.
