"I have a Johnson 175 Ocean Ru
"I have a Johnson 175 Ocean Runner. The power pack and coils were recently replaced as well as what was explained to me as a timing sensor. Has fresh plugs.
Symptoms:
Starting and warm up seem to be fine. Starting out slow up to a plane the engine will run fine for a few minutes and then will lose power and start to shake. Shaking the whole boat. Reducing power and trying to plane again will not fix the issue. However, if you turn the engine off, and restart, it will have (full) power again for about the same period of time at medium to full throttle. Turn it off again, same deal. I have noticed that if I take it to plane and full throttle immediately it will occur sooner.
My thoughts? This is obviously an electrical problem. Fuel and air are fine. If it were plugs, it wouldn't be resolved by resetting when you turn it off then back on. The fact that it occurs faster at full throttle appears to be accumulated RPMs.
So my question is, could this timing sensor be defective or not installed properly so that the engine begins to misfire. Again, it's resetting from zero the minute that I restart the engine.
Any help would be appreciated! Thanks"
