"I have a late 70's Johnson 15HP on a sailboat. The engine starts, but cuts off by itself. I can't seem to keep it running continuously. Could it be not enough air getting into the engine? What can I do to keep it running? Thanks in advance."

So how did the air get in to the motor all these years???? Start by doing a compression check and check that you have spark on both cylinders. These motors with dual ignition systems can be running on just one.

"I'm a newbie to these motors. I'd like to try and fix it without having to take the motor off the boat. Compression is ok, it was checked prior to putting it on the boat 3 days ago. I'll check the dual ignition and spark plugs. Any other ideas I need to look for? Thanks alot for the quick reply!"

"Start by disconnecting the stop circuit, pull the black/yellow cable off the connector to the power-pack.
If the problem still excists, have a spark-tester ready next time it occurs and do a spark check. Heated up coils reduces efficiency and might cause loss off enough current. Testing 'cold' everything works - testing hot is a different thing."
