Found out the stupid way to disconnect the 12v feed to the engine as i installed a plug/socket; just a small spark and a wake up call. Anyone know what size fuse/breaker i can install on that circuit to protect the wiring?

There should already be a 20 amp fuse under the cowling that protects the wiring going to the ignition switch. Other than that none other is needed. It is not practical to fuse the big starter wires due to the high amperage involved.

What are you changing / trying to achieve with the plug-in on this 15 HP motor.------------The electric start does not have a fuse from the factory.

As this is an auxiliary on a sailboat, the battery is 8 feet away. There is #8 wire run from the battery bus (both pos. and neg.), so rather than use the eye-to-eye connection that the previous owner had, i installed a plug/socket for easier disconnection and dismounting. Any circuit should have it's wiring protected a fuse/breaker is in order. As the manual doesn't have any spec. information for the starter,,,,,,,,,,,,,my question stands.
There is NO solenoid on this model (J15RCSD) there is NO fuse under the cowling, just a high-current rating, N.O.
push-button start switch.

OK, protection for wires is based on the wire size. # 8 copper wire with an insulation rating of 90 degrees C is rated at 45 amps. So a 50 amp fuse or breaker mounted as close to the battery as possible would be your solution.
