"2000 Johnson 150 has run good all year. It just started stalling out once you put it in gear and start on the throttle. The only way I can get through it is by hitting the choke. It stalls between 800 -900 RPM,s.Once over a 1000 RPM's it runs flawlessly. When it stalls you can start it right back up and it will idle until you put it in gear and try to take off.
Applied slight pressure to the primer bulb when this happens. No difference. Could it be the carbs?
Is their any type of cleaner or additives recommended? I would like to get through the rest of the fishing season with it prior to rebuilding the carbs.
Thanks in advance for your help."

i am not to familiar with the newer engines but have you checked the idle screws. i generally try to keep them idleing around 900. some people would consider that i little high but it helps when you take off. i would not think that the carbs being stopped up would cause this because you state it idles fine until you put it in gear.

Check your powerpack I have a 1997 150 that was doing that and only had 3 cyclinders firing. Replaced powerpack and it run fine now.

If chokeing ie putting more fuel in fixes the problem id say you have a low speed fuel problem time to clean the carbs

I think it is the carbs to. Is it safe to use Evinrudes BRP Engine Tuner? I am just trying to get it through the fishing season and then will have the carbs rebuilt.

This is done while the engine is running?
