" My 1974 Johnson 135 Outboard

" My 1974 Johnson 135 Outboard jumps when I throw it into gear to pull up a skier. It has manual trim and there is play in the motor when it isdown in the run psoition, which is what I think is causing it to jump. I am not sure how to get rid of the play? "

"CJ.... Does it jump only once

"CJ.... Does it jump only once, or does that jumping sensation repeat itself as long as you have a good amount of throttle applied?

" Joe...it jumps only when thr

" Joe...it jumps only when throttle is first applied. It appears to be slop where the motor is resting on the trim pin. Only 1/8 inch or so, but I am not sure what part to repair, the trip spring assembly or if I have bent part of the mount itself. Thanks. CJ "

"CJ.... When you say you have

"CJ.... When you say you have "manual trim", I don't know if you're speaking of a "trim" ... or a straight "tilt" hydraulic pump setup that is operated by a pump type lever.

If it's a hydraulic "tilt" lever pump setup, it will not hold against the engines power/thrust as you give it throttle. If, on the other hand, that setup is indeed a "trim" setup, then I would suspect that air is in the system or it's low on fluid, something of that nature.

At any rate, in either case, I'm somewhat puzzled as to why you don't simply have the engine lowered down to where it is resting on the tilt lock reverse rod to begin with. The engine couldn't jump down any lower than that.
