Thanks for the advice joereeves...

Hi brand new to this forum and have minimal experience in the boating world, so please be gentle with me.
I have just purchased a 5.5mtr Fiberglass boat with a 130hp Johnson, 2 stroke, V4 outboard motor on it. I have been advised to run it out of fuel when flushing out is complete after use, my questions are,

1) Is this advice correct, or have I been advised incorrectly ?

2) How long time wise should I run the motor on the ear muffs when flushing out ?

Thanks in advance Pharlap

You've correctly advised to run the carbs dry before putting your boat away for a week or so.
If you used it in salt water, it's best to flush it for a good 5 minutes or so. If lake water, just flush it for a minute or 2. Unless, you ran into mud, sand or other creepy bottom. The longer the flush with clean garden hose water, the cleaner your motor's water tube, passage, thermal stat being rinsed off.
Happy boating.

There are all kind of mixed advices that caused confusion. I believe "Racerone" will agree with running the carbs dry whether it's an oil injected motor or not. Once the motor runs out of gas, it will stop. Therefore, no oil being injected into the intake nor any oil will get to the combustion chamber.

"Joereeves" is the OMC master. But Joe, why would it be "a no, no" to run the 130hp Ocean Pro dry of gas? Did I misread the advice?

Interesting some subjects really get!
