Johnson 115 on Glastron - ignition does nothing after runs a while

I've been having this issue intermittently (of course) where the engine starts and runs fine on the water, very smooth and strong. After a good run, if I shut it down for a time, anywhere from 5 to 15 minutes and try to restart it, turning the ignition key does nothing. No clicks, just nothing. There is power as the radio and lights still work.

It seems if I jiggle the throttle lever a bit, or toss in neutral, I can finally get the ignition to come back to life and start the engine. I have had a marine repair shop look at it twice now and they find nothing wrong. Again, either in dry dock or when first launching, it cranks fine. Seems when hot or warm is when the problem occurs.

An help or ideas are appreciated.

You said "toss it in neutral" implies that you're trying to start it in gear, the neutral safety switch will not allow that. Also jiggling the handle ( while in neutral ) points to neutral safety switch or control cables need some adjustment.

Thanks or the reply. Sorry for the confusion. I'm not starting in gear, but engaging the neutral button to start it, the same way I always start it. Jiggling means moving the throttle up and back a few times. At some point turning the key will start the engine, but it's scary to be drifting and getting nothing when turning the key after sitting a few minutes.

It feels like something is loose, but doesn't explain why it never happens when cold prior to going out. I will check out the switch and cables as there have been times too when throttle sticks or engine stalls when throttling out of the hole. All intermittent problems which is why shops don't see issues in dry dock.

I had the same problem on my 250hp after it had been sitting for a year or two, check to see if it has a water cooled computer and that water is running through it, mal hose on the top & one on the bottom, the small pipe through he computer on mine was blocked, has a cut out when they over heat with out cooling, easy to clean, blow through or push some thing through to clear ,leave bottom hose off, start motor, water takes a little while to come through, when I took mine out after about 10 to 15 min it just cut out, no start on key, Dead, after about 20 min it would start again, run for about 15min ten stop, again, key Dead
Hope this helps , Ron Taylor

Your first post... "Ignition comes back to life". You're not having a problem with the ignition, you're having a problem with the electric starter circuit.

The problem is that the Neutral Safety Switch that is located within the control box needs adjusting. Loosen the two screws that retains it and slide it into the cam that causes it to engage.
