Need help trouble shooting the electric start on my 1984 9.9 hp Johnson Seahorse. Starter test ok and push button is good. How do you check the neutral switch? Is there any other components in the start circuit I should know about? Thanks fro any and all help.

Depends on if it was added later on too, do you have a model #? Or can you post a photo of the sides of the powerhead with the upper cowling removed? Size photos smaller than 1000 KB in order to add them.

The neutral safty switch is located below the shift linkage ,starboard. The start switch is located in the swivel bracket. Their is not a solenoid on a factory install.

If both switches are good then it should crank.-----Both switches need to be CLOSED to crank.---Perhaps nuetral switch needs adjusting.----Or you have a wiring issue here.

Do you have 12v on red wire at terminal strip? Do you have 12v to and from n/s switch while pushing start button when in neutral?
