" I performed the piston check

" I performed the piston check you recomend doing through the spark plug hole for piece of mind. However I didn't get it. When pushing down on the piston with a dowel after about an inch past TDC I was able to detect the slightest bit of play on two pistons (the top & bottom starboard side).I don't have the tools to accurately gauge the play but I would say it's no more tha approx. 1/32nd , just enough to detect. The engine otherwise runs flawlessly without any out of the ordinary noise. I am hoping to get the season out of it(light to moderate use)and have a rebuild done in the offseason. Johnson 150hp
Joe what's your opinion? Am I asking for trouble. I really appreciate your time and expertise. This board is making boating a lot more affordable for alot of people. "

" Tmon... It would be very unu

" Tmon... It would be very unusual to have play on two pistons but it could happen. If the play is indeed piston play (clearance in the wrist pin or con rod area), I would suggest that you remove the cylinder head to double check. However, if that play should be piston slap (a rocking motion), perhaps you could get through the season with it. Without being there, I can't absol;utely say what would happen.

It would have been better to have continiued this via the original thread. As it stands, I don't remember the original post.
