JOE REEVES: 1959 5.5Hp Impeller Installation Question

I have a service manual that says to rotate the driveshaft clockwise as I am closing up the impeller housing to insure I don't clip off any part of the impeller. Yet, if I remember correctly, you previously instructed me to install the impeller in the direction my driveshaft rotates. So, my driveshaft rotates counter-clockwise when I pull the rope. With all of your expertise I trust your word more than the service manual. So, here is my question, when I install the new impeller, do I rotate it counter-clockwise as the driveshaft rotates? Thanks so much for all your help.

Looking straight down at your flywheel/driveshaft, they do rotate clockwise as per your manual.

I find it best to have the impeller installed in the housing before hand, then simply slide the unit onto the driveshaft and key.

Hold the impeller housing in your left hand, and with your right hand spin the impeller into the housing in a "counter clockwise" direction. (Yes 'Counter Clockwise" here as we are looking at the bottom of it)

Have the impeller plate resting in the lower unit where it belongs.

Slide the driveshaft thru the impeller housing and impeller. Insert the impeller key into the driveshaft and then into the impeller. Now, simply slide the driveshaft and impeller assembly into the lower unit. Keeps it simple.

Ok Joe, now I totally understand...sorry to be such a pain...just don't wanna screw things up and when I see what look like conflicting instructions I wanna straighten it out....Thanks again guy!!! Appreciate it much.
