I have a 50 HP Yamaha 4 stroke. How can I determine the output of the charging system from the engine? It may be that I have a bad battery (dual batteries) as I do not get but 12.25 volts on the batteries at idle. Can I check the charge directly on the engine?

do you have a volt meter?

Yes, I do.

put the hand held volt meter on batt

turn to a/c volts

start motor

rev up to around 1500 rpm

if reads over .7 a/c volts = bad voltage regulator
