jet outboard transom splash

getting water flow over transom with 40hp mercury jet. wondering what i may have done wrong with installation or if there are problem boats/transoms. if so, what are possible solutions.

Does this happen when you decelerate rapidly? IF so thats pretty normal. Otherwise, it can be caused by putting too much engine on the boat, or if there is water already in the boat, or if the boat is overloaded.

water is coming over transom while planed off. it's almost as if it's climbing engine drive unit
and coming in boat in center of engine mounting bracket. again, i believe this is a 'jet only' issue
and i'm overlooking a mounting issue or positioning issue. thanks.

I don't know nothing about jets but have seen that happen on bass boats, they wind up getting a jack plate installed and finding the sweet spot.

Are you sure you mounted the unit high enough? That sounds like a classic example of too much water flowing over the top of the intake. It hits the pump housing and shoots straight up the transom. Been there, done that. Once you DO find the sweet spot you'll never have to move it from this position again under any condition. Go to outboardjets.com and read up...these guys make virtually all outboard jet pumps regardless of powerhead make. They know what they are talking about and answer any questions in a timely manner. If this is a new installation this is the likely problem. If you can't get the unit up any higher on the transom you'll have to "add to it" either by building up the transom or installing a jackplate. A jackplate usually adds setback which will increase the distance between the hull and the intake. I prefer building up or adding to the transom....just my preference. Good luck.

Thank you. Especially the new link for outboard jets. Greig
