" My 91 Johnson 40 VRO outboar
" My 91 Johnson 40 VRO outboard engine is stuck and I can't get the manual tilt to go up (or down)
I have been able to push the motor away (up) just enough to have the shock absorber/piston in full view. I can see where on the shock absorber the lock/release cable is attached. I have had the big plastic nut off, but have not been able to figure out how to disconnect the cable. I played with the cable end, but gave up before I broke something.
How do I replace the lock/release cable, if that's the problem ?
It seems the cable sheating is not "tight" enough to hold it's shape when trying to release the valve. When turning the release handle it seems instead of pulling the wire through to pull the valve up (out) for release the sheating around the cable shortens instead.
Unless of course the valve is stuck.
How do release the pressure in the shock absorber, if that's what I need to do ?
Is the shock absorber serviceable ?
Any help is appreciated. "
