"Hi guys, I recently swapped a Johnson with an Evenrude engine. After finally getting it to run, when I turn the ignition key to shut it off the motor keeps running to the point that I have to pull the spark plugs cable to shut it off. What could be the problem? Thank you."

"Either the stop-circuit int h

"Either the stop-circuit int he Power-pack does not get grounded, or the PP itself is defective.
Pull the black/yellow lead from the power=pack, start the engine and ground the black/yellow. Engine should stop.
If engine stops, take an Ohm-meter, attach one pin to ground and the other to the black/yellow in the engine wiring harness. In stop position -0 Ohm = short circuit. Of not, keep on measuring all the way to ign key."

"I had some time today and wen

"I had some time today and went and work on it. Well I checked the black-yellow wire, I make sure that it was grounded and also check it for continuity. I trace it all the way pass the wire harness plug. I opened the the power-pack apart pulled the wire out. put one pin on the black ground wire and the other on the terminal where the black/yellow wire was then i would turn the ignition key on and off and i was getting a reading. Then i turn it on, turn it off but still it keep running."

Once again:
Pull the black/ye

Once again:
Pull the black/yellow cable out of the connector from power pack.
Start the engine.
Put the black/yellow FROM power pack to ground.
Does the engine stop?

"Hey,,, I went back to it and

"Hey,,, I went back to it and I had check that the black-yellow cable was grounded. I also check that the ignition switch is working. I guess that I wasn't giving it enough time so that it would shutoff by it self. I took it for a ride and when I turned the switch off it did stop but it took a while. I turn it on again and adjusted the spark thing. And now it's working fine. Thank you Morten Your help is greatly appreciated."

"If it does not shut off immed

"If it does not shut off immediately (cut ignition), it is an indication that You have a faulting ground or connectivity issue somewhere in the circuit. It may be a 'dirty' ground connection, it may be one of the pins in a connector only hanging to one strand in the cable. Ohm test is done at a very low amperage and may read out ok, but amperage may not be enough."

I just went through this. One

I just went through this. One of my connections on the starter switch had worked its way loose. It was the shut off one. Put it back on and perfect shotoff.
