"Hello there, this is such a great site. You guys have helped me out so much in the past month, been going over all the Volvo Penta forums. I have a question about the motor I have. I find it hard to believe that the tag is right. The tag that is on my motor says it's a AQ100 but after looking at all the pictures I found of the AQ100 I have to believe its wrong. It looks more like a AQ130c if anything. I was wondering if you guys would happen to know what motor it is exactly. I have included some pics. Thank you all for the help.

"those are pics of the engine.

"those are pics of the engine. It does look about 130C vintage with that manifold...
The AQ100 used a bizarre front exit "riser" and bizarre oil cooler

AQ100 is a model of outdrive.

Take a pic of your transom... errr...I mean the boat's transom

AQ130C would be mated to a 270 model drive
AQ100 would be mated to a 100 series drive

Both engines would look quite similar both based on Volvo B16/18/20 which all look basically the same externally...
Someone may have swapped a 100 (B16) motor into your boat in place of the original B20

That's not a 100 series drive... 100 series drives had a hydraulic lift piston on the steering rod which "wiggled" the lower unit.
The drive in that picture has a 200 series tiller mechanism and electric motor screw lift tilt mechanism.

"I was thinking it was strange to put the stern drive unit tag on the engine block. that is what had me confused. I took some pics of the drive in hopes you could tell me what # drive that is.

I would have been far ahead to just buy a new one but thought me and my son would have fun rebuilding this one. I do not believe the guy that owned it before me was to worried about safety. That fuel filter is long gone and so are all the fuel lines. Also has anybody tried the Seloc online subscriptions, at Iboat they offer a deal where you get the book and online reference."

"B16/18/20 don't have an overhead cam. They are all pushrod motors.
VP did put the tags on the engine.
I have a 130C (B20) engine sitting in my shop with the tag on it.

My guess is someone blew up the AQ130C motor in your boat and replaced it with a used AQ100 motor. You'll be missing 30HP, but basically the same motor with less displacement."

"That drive is a 200 series but not a 280.
There is a metal tag on the lower unit on top , near the point near where the top bellows attaches to the lower unit that will tell you which drive it is."

"If the package is original, I suspect it is an AQ130/270. The other two possibilities for the outdrive are 250 or 275, but I don't think either of them came packaged with the AQ130."

"I was thinking that it was a AQ130 and 270, I will order that manual. It should be close enough I would think. The tag on the outdrive is gone but I did find B18 stamped in the motor. I found a couple of bent push rods so I plan on taking the whole thing apart, cant wait to see what I find

With the manual and this forum I believe I can get it done. Thanks everyone for the help and I hope I can return the favor one day."

"It the block is a B18 it cannot be an AQ130; the AQ130 is a B20.

The only B18 with dual carbs made by VP on the 200 series that come to my mind are the AQ110/200 and the AQ120/200, but those engines had dual Zenith Stromberg carbs. Maybe someone modified either of them and installed an intake manifold and dual Solex downdraft carbs from an AQ130?

"What was throwing me off was

"What was throwing me off was the dual solex carbs and the oil cooler being below the filter. It has the same exhaust as the 110 in your 3rd link El. I cant see the previous owner doing any mods to it, he barley even looked at it but you never really know. It could very well be a Frankenstein, will be fun trying to rebuild it!!

So far with a couple bent push rods and a stuck valve spring, I feel I have only hit the tip of a very big iceberg. Was looking to get it out for crappie season in Missouri but probably wont make it.
