Thanks Cramer and Cliff. I will be satisfied if it is in the era of 84 or 85. My friend is looking to buy this and it is in nice shape. It ran well in the bucket today. I was surprised to see that this old of an outboard was a 100/1 oil mix. I told him to run it at 50/1 from advise and bulletin info. I received on this site.

The more oil you use the more it lowers the octane That your motor gets
If it aint gas it dont have octane!
We have raced using 200 to one mixes with no problems whatsoever which let us lean out that little bit extra without the worry of a low octane meltdown!
Mind you we didnt use Walmart oil when we did this!

"100/1 was a OMC disaster. Many a powerhead had to be rebuilt due to this mixture. Stick to the 50/1 mixture unless you look forward to expensive repairs, and frequently.

50/1..... 1 pint of TCW-III 50/1 oil to 6 gallons of gasoline. A octane rating of 87 will be fine."

"Joe im with you 50:1 and by the way we raced outboards on 25:1...it provided better sealing on the rings, better heat dissapation by acting as a medium for the heat to pass from piston\rings to bore etc etc"
