Is there a separate low and high rpm circuit inside power pack

minutes in the water but after engine reaches
correct temp it will only run perfect up to
a certain speed and then with any more throttle
it will cycle back and forth between trying to run faster and cutting out.Pull throttle back
a bit runs perfect.Squeezing fuel bulb,disconnecting temp sensor does
not help. Tempted just to replace electronics under flywheel with external conversion kit from
ebasicpower.What say?"

"Probably Your SLOW function kicking in limmiting the engine rpm. There are some possibilities:
Engine overheats (the alarm horn should go off).
No oil, if VRO, the alarm should go off.
Spark jump from plug cable to temp switch cable has killed the power pack and it has locked itself in 'SLOW'. (Use of NGK 'R' plugs or defective plugs.
Try to didconnect the brown cable going into the power pack.
If engine runs ok, find the defective switch/sensor.
If problem still excists: change power pack.
NOTE: Be sure engine does not over heat or lacks oil before doing this!"
 
I agree it does seem to be s.l

I agree it does seem to be s.l.o.w. function kicking in once engine and power pak get to temp.
although vro is disconnected and so is brown
wire from temp switch to power pak.
What I will do next is ground brown wire
to block during the first few minutes the engine
is cold and running well at high speed to see
if I can cause the problem.Just trying to prove
problem is not fuel related before buying new
power pak.

Please post what cured your problem. I'm having the exact same problem on a '98 150 and all tests point to the power pack.Just curious if this fixes your problem. I haven't had the cash to fix mine at this point.
 
My father has a mid ninties 40

My father has a mid ninties 40 hp that had same symptoms. New power pack cured this.

"I have the same problem and have replaced the power pak twice , along with coil and everything else dealing with spark , fuel pump, tank, hose ,etc. just getting tired
